Review and Giveaway: Mederma Advanced Scar Gel

Maybe I'm the only one who burns herself while cooking?  I thought I left that in my past but over the holidays when I pulled that amazing peacan pie out of the oven (and oh yes, it was amazing) I did put my arm down on the size of the dish, ever-so-slightly, and got that oh-so-familiar sizzle.  I'm a pro at burns so the first aid was taken care of, but lasting longer than the pounds from the peacan pie is the scar.

We're all familiar with Mederma and their products, and I'll be the first to admit that I'm a big skeptic when it comes to advertisements.  When I was contacted about their new advanced scar gel I knew I had to try it -- certain it was just another gimmick.  How could something I apply once daily to my old scars really make that big of a difference?

With my very first application of the product I was surprised by the pleasant, clean smell of the clear gel.  I don't know what I expected?  Maybe I thought it'd be something like the old petroleum jelly I have in my washroom but this product is clearly more refined, clean and easy to use without a nasty odor.  Not only do I not mind using it on my arm, but I don't mind using it on my children, too.

For existing scars you need to use the product daily for 3-6 months.  I've been using it for a little over one month and have already noticed a difference!  The skin is smoother and more "normal" and the colouring of the scar is definitely fading.  In fact, a few weeks into the trial I burned myself again and can testify that this stuff is a whiz with new scars.  These days I have to look pretty closely to determine where I even need to apply as both have faded quicker than promised.

I took before pictures, but they didn't come out very well.  (If anyone has a nice camera they'd like me to review ... *winkwink*)

This is definitely going to be a permanent part of our family medicine kit, leaving my whole family free to explore our favourite hobbies: extreme cooking and extreme childhood.  Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to find more scars to zap.  In this family of four there are certainly some lurking around...

This is a brand-new product and Mederma wants you to try it out immediately!  There will be FIVE lucky winners from this giveaway.  Four of you will receive the Mederma Advanced Scar Gel and one of you will received the gel in addition to and "Advanced Confidence Survival Kit," which I was also lucky enough to preview.  It's a handy-dandy little kit I now keep in my car for emergencies of the beauty kind.  (Giveaway after the jump.)

Disclosure

I was sent this product free of charge.

This has in no way affected my opinion of the product or service. This review is my opinion and has been written in my own words.  Results may not be typical.  Everyone's skin is different.  You should not assume that your scars will fade as quickly as mine did.

My most recent one came while sawing up fallen tree branches (with a hand saw). Thankfully my tetanus was up to date!

I have a big scar on my knee from the time I was 11 and riding my bike...down a steep hill...toward a parking garage...and SMASHED head on into one of the giant concrete supports holding up the garage.

My daughter was in the high school play last spring. She was sitting in a chair curling her hair before leaving the house and dropped the curling iron on her leg. She has a terrible scar from the burn. Would love to see if this would help to fade the scar.
Thank you!

Last Summer, I was cooking supper. I did not know that my Husband had turned on the frying pan with the oil in it. I went to add a pork chop and the oil spewed all over my right wrist and arm. It has left quite a scar. I would love to try this product to see if it would make the scar less noticable.

Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity. ~Pauline

I'm a scar roadmap! My oldest is on my inner left ankle. I was 5 and riding on the back of my father's 10 speed bike. He told me to keep my feet away from the spokes and I was...until he decided to ride down a grass hill and I freaked out. Freaked out even worse to see skin flapping off my ankle. It's a perfectly round scar and even to this day, I can't touch it. My husband has even tried in my sleep and I move my ankle away from him LOL.

My worst scar is almost 3 inches long and on my neck and looks like the Nike Swoosh from having a birth mark removed.
